The unique biodiversity and abundant life found on the Galápagos Islands is fueled by nutrient-rich cold waters. El Niño increases water temperatures, which threatens many of the marine species found here. In October, UNC researchers embarked on a three-week long research expedition, collecting water samples to better understand the impacts of this year's El Niño.
